Within days of the classic toggle disappearing in July 2026, the internet organized. Petitions on Change.org asked Google to restore the classic version. Google's product forums filled with threads titled go back to old version. Reddit reviews of the new app were unprintable.

The pattern is familiar. Google retires a beloved design, users petition, Google moves on. Waiting for a reversal has not worked for Reader, for Inbox, or for a dozen other products. Rebuilding works.

What the community is asking for

The petitions are specific. They cite portfolio sorting, detailed transaction histories, and the plain navigation that disappeared with the redesign. These are not vague complaints about change. They are lists of tools people used to manage real money.

Why Google will not bring it back

The redesign is part of Google's company-wide AI strategy, announced in stages from August 2025 through the global rollout in April 2026. Reversing it would mean maintaining two products. Google's history says that does not happen.

So we brought it back ourselves

Folivue is an independent rebuild of the old Google Finance: layout, density, charts, watchlists, and the calm of a page with no AI in it. It launches next week. Signing the waitlist is faster than signing a petition, and it works.
