The Google Finance redesign happened in stages, and each stage removed a little more of the old site. Here is the full timeline, what changed at each step, and why the backlash keeps growing.

The redesign timeline

Three dates matter.

  • August 2025: Google starts testing the AI-powered Finance in the US, with a link to switch back to the classic design
  • April 2026: the redesign expands to more than 100 countries, still with the classic escape hatch
  • July 23, 2026: Google Finance exits beta, launches a dedicated app, and removes the classic toggle for everyone

What leaving beta actually changed

For almost a year the beta label was a promise of sorts: this is an experiment, and the link in the corner takes you back. Exiting beta was not just a label change. It locked the redesign in.

  • The Switch to classic Google Finance toggle was removed for all users
  • The AI-powered page became the only version served worldwide
  • Google launched a dedicated Google Finance app alongside the site
  • Portfolios finished migrating to the new, simplified system

The backlash

As long as the toggle existed, complaints stayed quiet because escape was one click away. When it disappeared, the reaction was immediate: petitions on Change.org asking Google to restore the classic version, threads on Reddit and Google's own forums cataloguing missing features, from portfolio sorting to transaction history to chart volume.

What happens now

Google is not going back. The redesign fits its AI strategy, and retired Google designs stay retired. The classic experience survives only where someone rebuilds it. That is Folivue, and early access is open, no invite needed.

Frequently asked questions

When did the Google Finance redesign roll out?

Testing started in the US in August 2025, expanded to over 100 countries in April 2026, and became the only version on July 23, 2026.

Is Google Finance still in beta?

No. Google Finance exited beta on July 23, 2026. The AI-powered redesign is now the finished, default product, and the beta-era link back to the classic design was removed the same day.

Will Google bring back the classic Google Finance?

There is no indication it will. Google has retired the classic design and removed the toggle. Petitions exist but Google has not responded with a restoration.

What was removed in the redesign?

Users report losing the classic portfolios with transaction history, the dense stats layout, chart volume, and finally the classic view toggle itself.
